As per the Tourism Department of New Mexico, the lack of ride-share services is just a part of this state’s ramping-up stage as it has started reopening.
Ride-hailing service providers such as Lyft and Uber were forced to downsize in the epidemic period due to lack of demand, said an unnamed Tourism Department official.
With restrictions being lifted, New Mexico has a lack of balance between capacity and demand, said that official.
The state Tourism Department expects ride-share businesses to work their way back toward satisfying the demand. At the same time, it knows that the process is likely to take time.
As per a recent Washington Post article, the businesses say that several drivers still hesitate to go back to work for fear of contracting the virus. Both Lyft and Uber incentivize drivers and increase their wages to attract them back to their applications.
